Worship and Music Minister
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Position Type: Full-time with benefits
Objective
The Worship and Music Minister at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church leads the congregation in meaningful, spirit-filled worship experiences that draw from both Lutheran liturgical traditions and contemporary praise and worship expressions. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing a dynamic and inclusive music ministry that fosters authentic worship, encourages congregational participation, and engages a multi-generational community.
Key Responsibilities
Worship Planning and Leadership
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to plan worship services that thoughtfully integrate scripture, sermon themes, and a blend of traditional elements and contemporary praise music.
- Design and lead worship experiences that incorporate both hymns and modern worship songs, reflecting the theological richness of the Lutheran tradition alongside current expressions of praise.
- Plan and execute music for regular and special services (Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Christmas, Easter, weddings, and funerals), ensuring services are meaningful, engaging, and accessible to a diverse congregation.
- Oversee sound, multimedia, and live-streaming elements to support both in-person and online worship experiences.
Leadership and Direction
- Direct and rehearse with choir(s), praise teams, instrumentalists, and other music groups, cultivating a balanced ministry that includes both traditional ensembles and contemporary worship teams.
- Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers across a variety of musical styles and roles, fostering both spiritual growth and musical excellence.
- Provide spiritual leadership and encouragement to all participants in the worship and music ministry.
Administration and Coordination
- Manage scheduling of all music and worship elements, coordinating closely with church staff and volunteers.
- Maintain and oversee music resources, instruments, and audio/video equipment.
- Develop and manage the Music and Worship budget with responsible stewardship.
- Prepare and contribute worship-related content for church communications, including bulletins, website, and digital platforms.
Development and Outreach
- Cultivate a welcoming and vibrant worship culture that invites participation from all ages and backgrounds.
- Encourage the growth of both traditional and contemporary worship expressions within the life of the church.
- Explore and implement creative uses of technology and media to enhance worship and expand outreach.
Special Responsibilities
- Serve as a bridge between traditional and contemporary worship communities within the congregation.
- Collaborate with other church ministries to support a unified vision of worship and congregational life.
Qualifications
- A vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Theology, or a related field preferred
- Experience in church music ministry that includes both traditional worship and contemporary praise and worship leadership.
- Familiarity with Lutheran theology and worship practices, with the ability to work within that tradition while embracing a variety of worship styles preferred.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and mentor volunteers.
- Proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental music; ability to lead both choirs and contemporary worship teams is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative spirit.
- Willingness to become a member and actively support the mission and values of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Work Environment
The Worship and Music Minister primarily works on-site at the church and is provided an office.
Compensation
To be determined based on experience and qualifications.
